This year, 2018, has been one of the most eventful years in recent memory here in Cranston, RI. With so many things going on in the world and in our society, it’s easy to forget about all the amazing movies that came out this year. The cold weather makes it the perfect time to get cozy in your Independence Place apartment and snuggle up with some movies, so we wanted to put together a list of the best films of 2018 for your next movie night.

Black Panther

This innovative genre-changing film was the highest grossing movie of 2018. With a new spin on superhero movies, Black Panther is an all time great movie starring big time actors Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, and Martin Freeman.

“Black Panther follows T’Challa who, after the events of Captain America: Civil War, returns home to the isolated, technologically advanced African nation of Wakanda to take his place as King. However, when an old enemy reappears on the radar, T’Challa’s mettle as King and Black Panther is tested when he is drawn into a conflict that puts the entire fate of Wakanda and the world at risk.”

Eighth Grade

“Thirteen-year-old Kayla endures the tidal wave of contemporary suburban adolescence as she makes her way through the last week of middle school--the end of her thus far disastrous eighth grade year before she begins high school.”

Comedian Bo Burnham delivers one of the most hilarious and touching movies of the year in a film about early teenage years that has resonated with everyone. This film hasn’t had the big numbers like Black Panther, but critics have been raving about this movie since it debuted at the Sundance Film Festival in early 2018.

A Quiet Place

You may know him as Jim from The Office, but John Krasinski has come a long way from being the lovable goofball from a sitcom.

“In the modern horror thriller A Quiet Place, a family of four must navigate their lives in silence after mysterious creatures that hunt by sound threaten their survival. If they hear you, they hunt you.”
